I have so much love for El Mac the best street artist in the world.

BrightonThinkBig: Inspiraton

Words cannot describe how much inspiration CONOR HARRINGTON fills me with….

While the military figures in Conor Harrington’s powerful street paintings refer to the masculinity of urban culture, they can also be interpreted as self-portraits of the stoic, pensive persona of the contemporary painter. Harrington’s loose brushwork, seemingly unfinished imagery, dripping paint, and graffiti flourishes provide an antidote to his sometimes sentimental evocations of duty and honor. “I’m interested in the dynamics between opposing elements,” he says. Harrington believes that society views men as redundant, and presents his work as a simple reminder of the emotional contributions men are capable of.” bio artsy.net

What’s going on in Brighton?

Just been on brief walk about Brighton- the same changeover of new street art dominates the hoarding by Brighton Station.

The derelict warehouse by the Brighton Wood store is a great spot with its shutters and variable surfaces- I found a students trolley along my way- thought it looked like a piece of modern art!  Lastly is the mural along the Shabitat building which draws attention from the traffic on the main road.

Melbourne Stencil Festival

The Melbourne Stencil Festival was Australia’s premier celebration of international street and stencil art. Since its inauguration in 2004 the festival has become an annual event, touring regional Victoria and other locations within Australia. The festival was held for 10 days each year, involving exhibitions, live demonstrations, artist talks, panel discussions, workshops, and street art related films to the general public. It featured works by emerging and established artists from both Australia and around the world.

Since its inception, the Stencil Festival featured some 800 works by over 150 artists, many of whom were experiencing their first major art exhibition, finding it difficult to be exhibited in major commercial galleries reluctant to display emerging art forms. The first Melbourne Stencil Festival was held in a former sewing factory in North Melbourne 2004. The three-day exhibition attracted spectator numbers far beyond expectations.

From 10-19 May 2013, as part of the Dulwich Festival, the biggest names in street art will create an outdoor gallery of public murals inspired by works held by Dulwich picture galley England’s oldest public gallery. The nine day long festival explored the position of street art, a huge new global art movement, in the continuum of art history and has seen 16 of the current masters of the street reinterpret and remix the works of the masters of old.
